The Old Truck

1 2 3 4,
he rumbles,
his eyes stuck on the door,
and has crossed his finger,
heart filled with prayer,
pleading the God,
please,"one minute more."

A B C D,
she mumbles,
gazing through the gate,
ignoring the cake in her plate,
and has her vision straight,
pleading the God,
please,"one minute ahead of my mate".

Yes!!!
Done for the day,
homework and lessons,
now no more distress,
He rushes out from his hall-way,
she runs down the alley,
He forgets to tie his shoe-lace,
she forgets her slipper instead,
let's see who first reaches
the old truck,
and gets to be the best.

"I reached first," she says,
so I get to play,
"No, it was my shoe-lace" he analyzes,
or else I'd have chased!
She shows her bare feet,
smirks and says, "You silly!"
"I've won the bet,
you just have to wait".

The old truck,
broken and rusted,
abandoned by its master,
is a playground for them.
They slide and swing,
and climb and cling,
they jump and run,
spin and have fun,
All this happen,
until the sun is gone.

They get tired,
she now remembers her bruised feet,
he sees his shoes torn,
"Your mom won't notice",
says she,
"Don't worry",
convinces he,
"...but the real deal is
whoever wins the race,
gets to swing and slide first"
Sheepishly she smiles,
"No more shoes"
He thinks.

When I grow-up,
"I won't have any homework"
When I grow-up,
"I get to play all along"
Little do they know,
when they grow up,
the society expects them to excel,
have a great career,
that pays them abundance,
have a cozy home,
and a picture perfect family,
think of the future of the future
who aren't even born.

When they grow-up,
Little do they know,
the old-rusted truck
will be happiness no more!!!

(P.S.: I wrote this while I was watching the children play in the old, rusted and broken truck which has been parked all along for more than 2 years in front of my house. Rest is all what I felt when I saw the kiddos running around the truck. Any resemblance to anybody's life is merely a coincidence).
Sorry for the picture quality but I had to zoom it in to capture the moment.
