TOP 5 THINGS OF BEING A NEPALI

So, two years and two months in foreign land, and now I'm back in my home country, in NEPAL. I am enjoying the warm sunshine in December (which was almost next to IM-POSSIBLE) both in England and Denmark & trying to reminisce of what it was like being an exotic species from Nepol (that's how Nepal was pronounced).

So, the top 5 things I heard from most of the people:

1. Ahh, NEPAL!! Beautiful.. (But where is it?)

Yes! On one hand, we Nepalese never get tired of ranting "Buddha was born in Nepal", I met many people who had no idea of where in the earth Nepal was! And I'd to be a geographer and make them aware that Nepal is a small country between India and China (which they'd heard of). What amazed me the most is even few of my Chinese friends had no idea about it (sad to be a small country in a big world).

2. Isn't it India?

I know, like many Nepali, I hated this question when someone asked me if Nepal was a part of India! Either these people never studied the list of countries while they were in school or they didn't bother to know about the geography of this planet. I know Nepal is small but it was/is never a part of India (I can't predict the future) but we do share a lot of commonality with our neighboring country. And yes, we don't speak Indian (most of the people thought Indian was a language) as well: we have our own language.

3. Are all the Nepalese girls short like you?

LOL!! No, sorry but you happened to meet one of the short girl from Nepal. Not everyone from Nepal is as short as I am.
Yes, I heard this a lot as well.

4. Have you climbed Mount Everest?

And for those, who knew where Nepal was and Mount Everest was in Nepal, most of them asked me this question. It's true that we have Mount Everest but this doesn't mean that all the 23 million people will summit it. We are glad to have the Himalayas in our country but the Sherpas, our pride, who you must have heard about and not all Nepalese are Sherpas.

5. It's beautiful.

And YES! I met few people who had been to Nepal and they absolutely loved our country. Few of them tried the Annapurna circuit and were thrilled by it, I met a couple who did the bungy jump from "The Last Resort" and they wore the tee so I was able to recognize them in a cafe in London. I also met few people who volunteered during Earthquake 2015- Thank you to them. And few more!

There is no second thought about the beauty of our country but I was so sad to meet the dusty and dirty Kathmandu as I stepped out of TIA. Kathmandu is the first impression of Nepal that visitors will have. Let's be civilized and make our city clean. :)

This is my list. Do you have yours? Don't forget to leave your comment in it!
