HE or SHE?
Current mood: watching "About Ray" and I'm thinking, thinking a lot about he/she?
"I am a boy in a girl's body," Ray says.
Ouch!! That hit me hard. This line from the movie kind of touched my heart and I thanked myself for having a body that satisfies my soul.
What if you are given a body and you're not what your body actually is?
Our society designates us to behave in a certain way depending on our body features but what if you have a body and you're not the one what your body is.
In About Ray, a 16-year old Ramona is in the process of being Ray--- struggling for around twelve years waiting for the society to accept his/her identity!! She menstruates and has breasts but she loves girls and always wanted to be a boy. Unlike her grandmother, she did not like herself to be called a lesbian or a gay because she knew she wasn't one: she was always a boy with vagina and she knew this since she was four years old.
I can never imagine myself in Ramona's place in this society. She had to go against her friends, her father, and most of all, the society who never understood the pain she went through and was judged. That is the identity crisis shown in the movie because of the societal pressure.
Why are we always judged? Judged on our appearances, our body, our clothes, our skin, our gender, our accent, our whatever! Everyone of us is different which makes us unique and every single individual should respect this diversity.
Just because one has a vagina and breasts can't limit their potential and dreams. The body is just something made up of muscles and blood and other vital organs and the heart beat makes us alive. It is the soul that matters and makes us.
Have a beautiful soul. LIVE AND LET LIVE! That's what matters for me.
