What type are YOU??
Just a simple question, what's your hobby? Reading, writing, music, gardening, sleeping... could be anything, Right? Well, mine is observing people. NO!! Don't judge me, just because I observe people as I don't judge them.
It's just that I love watching people----- what they do, how they walk, how they dress up, how they talk, how they do things and bla bla bla but again, I don't judge them (making that clear to you).
So, last summer when I arrived Copenhagen (can't believe it's almost WINTER now!!), I was on my own i.e. all my friends had gone to their home and I was broke so was forced to stay here all alone. So, as a newbie in the town and the country as a whole, I used to roam around and I fully took advantage of 2 weeks of Danish summer. I used to go to parks, gardens, beaches, streets and do my favorite thing----observe people and while doing so, I categorized people on the type of tourists/travellers/wanderers they were (not judging again).
Let's see if you agree with my list!!!
1. Social media tourist: The first category are the social media tourists who are much more concerned with making snapchat stories or Instagram live stories or going live in Facebook than really enjoying the place. Does that relate to you? Well, I have put it as number one category 'coz I fall in this category as well and while observing people and their social media, I think this should top the list.
"The pub I visited", "The museum I just checked-in", "The dress I wore or the shoes I donned", "The food I ate in XYZ restaurant", "The beer I drank in the ABC bar", "The park I ran in", "The bird I saw flying", "The hotel room I slept in", "The view I just witnessed and you missed", "The new friend I just met or the old friend I just bumped into": "everything must be in the social media and everyone must know that I am travelling" kind of people.
Before eating or drinking you click pictures, use some or many filters and post it and some people really go beyond that line when they post almost all of their holiday pictures in Facebook or almost more than 100 of photos one by one in Instagram. Arghhhh..... (It's not that I have any problem with people doing anything in their own world but just let you know if you are one of them who do things like this, your updates are either hidden from my profile or I just don't give a shit about your 200+ holiday photos). And just to remind you NOT JUDGING AGAIN!!!
2. Photo Tourist: There are few tourists who click photos but don't share in social media. They just keep it for memories. BUT, but, but...I have experienced few funny incidents regarding these tourists as well. They are the one who have lots of places to visit in a very short time so they just click photos just to show others and say, "Oh yeah, I have been to that place".
Once I was in the marble church in Copenhagen and was so mesmerized by its architecture that I was lost in my own world, enchanted by its beauty and suddenly my world fell into pieces in a second when an Asian couple entered the church. I was just by the entrance so I noticed the guy on the lead and the lady following him. He didn't even bother to look around and just went straight forward, clicked photo and rushed out of the church and the lady just followed him.
I have done it several times while I was in England and I used to go for the day trips organized by the university. That used to be hilarious but fun in its own and a way of capturing memories as well.
3. D-SLR tourists: Sorry, I don't own a DSLR so may be I am writing against them but I have seen few tourist families who all have their cameras hanging in their neck and clicking every single thing they see--like a dog, a cat, a tap in street, a door, window, roof top, a chair, a bench, staircase, a broken bucket etc etc. Okay, not judging again but don't you have doors or windows or dogs or cats or streets in the country you come from?? Sorry for complaining but it's what I feel. (Am I being too harsh or stupid?)
4. The Tourists/ The Travelers/ The Wanderers: Okay, I just googled the definition of tourist and vocabulary.com says, "someone who visits a city, town or historic sites just for pleasure of exploring." But how many of us really explore? Am I judging people based on my own experience 'coz most of the time, I fall into the above mentioned categories. Do we travel just to add few more photos in our photo albums or do we really learn from it as Augustine of Hippo say- "The world is a book and those who don't travel only read one page".
So, which group do you fall in?
