My faded memories of Alok Nembang
(I extracted this from my diary dedicated to my faded memories of Alok Nembang, written on 7th November 2014.)
Last night when Aayu woke me up from my deep sleep to tell me about Alok's death, at first, it was hard for me to recall who Alok Nembang was and once I gained my consciousness, I felt a sudden chill run through my body; and on top of that, I learnt it was a suicide.
My memories of Alok dates back with our Black and White TV when we used to eagerly wait for Saturday (as far as I remember) for an hour long programs that used to air in Nepal Television. Those were the only programs which we used to watch and enjoy, while we only used to "watch" other stuffs in TV. Top of the Pops, Hindi movie Countdowns are some shows I remember now, that used to broadcast somewhat 20 years ago. Till then, I never cared about who the VJ was, but now when I recollect the memories, it was a pleasure to watch both Alok and Sushil in that 14 inch B/W frame.
With the flow of time, we were more inclined to Hindi channels and music videos, where I learnt more about singers and musicians, VJs and models.
And when we were in grade 8 (or 9 and 10), there were some beautiful Nepali pop songs (or may be before that, but I rarely cared about them). Along with good songs, there were good music videos too and gradually, I began to notice the name list of the cast and crews that was displayed in the screen at the beginning and end of every music videos. And especially, those under either BAP production or those under Bhusan Dahal's direction used to stand out from rest of the pack.
With the recent technological boon going around us, I started loving Alok's music videos in color TV. I always loved his songs and the stories in each music video. I always admired him. The way he presented himself in interviews or the way he used to talk- always grabbed my attention.
Not to forget about Sano Sansar, I was crazy about watching it but may be I was scared to spend my money in Jai Nepal or Kumari for a Nepali movie or may be I didn't have that enough money to pay off for any movie at that time, I couldn't go and watch it. The same was for "Kohi Mero". But I've already watched both the movies now and I am planning to watch the third upcoming movie.
Creative and talented men always attract me and he is of no exception. I always had a soft corner in my heart for him and may be this is why his death news brought chills in my body last night. That was my love, admiration and respect for Alok. He was one of the Nepalese celebrities whom I really looked up to.
I always dreamed of Stardom. It always intrigued me about the feeling being followed by a paparazzi 24*7, or how it felt to taste fame and name or was it wonderful being appreciated and criticized and of course, how one must feel when they are asked for an autograph. That is being a celebrity for me.
I know, celebrities always complaint of their privacy but I never thought that even surrounded by hundreds of fan-followers, they would be so lonely in this planet.
Today, I dedicated most of my day with Alok's song or being more precise, the songs directed by him. From Nabin K. Bhattarai to Anju Panta's song. Whatever be the reason that led him to take his own life, the sad part is there won't be any more movies or songs directed by Alok Nembang, and many of us will miss that thing.
