Excitement filled FOOTBALL month

"Don't shout. Its midnight and we live in a society where people sleep at night"; said my father. But it was my favorite team who scored a goal and how could I just be calm and watch the match, after all it was our victory!!

I do not claim myself as a football freak but World Cup for me has not been less than a festival that I have been celebrating since early childhood.

As a kid, maybe I was unaware about the rules and regulations or the free kicks and off sides, but one thing I knew, it was the sport played by 22 players for 90 minutes fighting over that golden cup. All I do remember is watching this game with my football (loving) family with all the enthusiasm and respect.

I especially loved the "Football Effect" where discussions and reviews on match continued and the craze among the boys in our school ground (and at some point, the sport spirit among we girls too) are some of the awesome memories I have of my past World Cups.

I waited for this 2014 carnival since 11th July 2010, when Spain thrashed the dream of the Dutch team to own that golden cup and they were restrained as first runner-up. As a supporter of Dutch team, I was pretty much happy with their wide range revenge victory over the Spanish team this year. Though they could not  make it up to the finals, the Dutch lads maintained their unbeaten status throughout the entire 2014 World Cup season.

Ever since I knew David Beckham, I know football and so  have I known and loved the English team. Though they had to return home from Group Stage, they were and will always be my favorites. And thanks to my friend, who familiarized me with the Orange team in last World Cup and ever since they have been added to my favorite list.

This means I dedicated my whole month from June 12th to July 12th for my 2 favorite teams- England and the Netherlands. Like every Nepali football follower, I followed every match (except the final match) despite the fact they were mostly scheduled mid nights or early mornings. I had a good time even during those sleepless night with dark circles underneath my eyes because I had waited for this one month eagerly since 4 years.

Indeed, Football is the king of all the sports. I think no one in this planet kept themselves away from the updates that was happening in Brazil and the football fans must have remained thrilled this entire month. With every goals, we laughed along the team and with each loss, tears must have rolled down. That is the magic of this majestic game.

Even I tried something new this time to cheer my teams. Face paintings, watching matches with the jersey on,  walking the streets with jersies, shouting for the teams was my daily schedule. Baba supporting Argentina, mommy supporting every second team, my bro and sis supporting Brazil and me supporting England and Netherlands made our family a World Cup family.
Ola Oranje!!
Brazilian supporters in my family
Heroes were born; they played and showed us great games, entertained us and Brazil was able to keep us unified in the name of football.

From Robin Van Persie tagged as a "flying dutch man" to Ochoa as "Ted Mosbey" in Social Networking sites; from Brazilian 7-1 to Spain's 5-1 loss; from curse of Neymar's vertebral fracture to Krul's lucky penalty saving; from Tim Howard saving 15 goals in a 90 minute match to 4 goals in 6 minutes in Julio Cesar's net; from Klose record breaking real celebrations to Higuain's offside goal celebration; from Marcello's opening own goal to Shaqiri's left footed hattrick; from so called Underdogs fabulous performance to former WC champion knocked out from Group stage; From 18 year old Luke Shaw to 43 year Mondragon; from 29 seconds first goal to penalty deciding semi-final; from Robben's game changing dive to substitute Gotze's cup deciding goal; from Brazil's hot Samba to first ever cooling break; from Palacio's pony tail to Cristiano's hairdos, from David Luiz's tears to Rodriguez's happiness and last not the least Swarez turned to vampire and many more beyond and after this; World Cup 2014 left us with tits bits and golden memos.

And for me, I have already started counting the days for 2018 World Cup.

See you in Russia!!!
